The Gathering Place

Yesterday was a historic day for all Tulsans. We saw the opening of The Gathering Place, a park that has been four years in the making. It was commissioned by the George Kaiser Family Foundation as a way to bring Tulsa together.

The park offers many various things to do such as a skate and bike park a sports complex, two areas of swing sets; one for adults and one for children. There are several beautiful gardens, mountains, a beach area, and various playgrounds.

For  dining areas, this park has several options. These include The Boathouse which offers an upscale restaurant, The Vista which is an upscale menu at an affordable price. There is also The Patio where standard burgers, pizza and hot dogs are served. For coffee, ice cream, an d pastry options, check out the Red Bud Cafe. The Boathouse is located near Swing Hill and Sky Garden. The Patio is located in the Lodge near the edge of the park Red Bud Cafe is in next door in the Reading Tree.

The park is free with the exception of food and drink, as well as some sports equipment rentals. The hours of operation are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. daily and the park employs 24 hour security. There are several shuttles at various locations in Tulsa to take guests to the park, such as Riverspirit Casino, located on 83rd and Riverside and the Tulsa Fairgrounds. Guests can bring food into the park, but no alcohol. Free parking is also available.

The Gathering Place is located at 2650 South John Williams Way E, Tulsa, Ok. 74114. It's an incredible place to visit and spend the day with family and friends. Stay for the evening during the first 100 days to see a free light show! For more information, visit www.gatheringplace.org

Finish strong!

We're down to the last few weeks folks! I have to finish my editorial on the college admissions scandal this weekend and this month will be attending a religious service for intercultural communication. On the 18th, I will be attending the Campus Activities Board for student leadership recognition and then a gala for winning a scholarship! This has been a challenging semester with lots of illness and pain, but I can see the light. I will have three weeks off until my summer classes start. I am taking Social Media Marketing and Honors TCC Connection. My job requires all students working there to enroll in a class each semester to advance their learning. In the fall, I am taking Principles of Advertising, Honors TCC Connection, Digital Photography, and Japanese I. Wish me luck! Gabrielle

Why going back to work was the best thing I could have done

I was a stay at home wife and furmom for the better part of a decade. I enjoyed it, but it got to where I needed more. I needed challenges and interaction from other people. I went back to college at Tulsa Community College last fall and aced my class. I applied and started working at The TCC Connection in December 17th. It has been a great experience for me and I'm loving meeting new people. I love the interaction with my coworkers and the camaradie. I also enjoy being involved in campus activities and being a part of the campus activities board. But mostly, I've enjoyed being a part of a community again. I enjoy being busy and having exciting new challenges everyday. It's days like today where I am at home ill that makes me appreciate my new life. I enjoyed my old life, but I have a great new one and I couldn't be happier.

Sick day

I'm home sick for a couple of days. I've had chills, cramps (that time is coming), coughing, sneezing, and sinus headache. Basically, I feel like hell. My boss told me to stay home until I'm better, so I'm working from home. I finished all my assignments well ahead of time and am doing well in my classes. So I've earned a day or two off. I'm going to try to be back in Wednesday, but we'll see how I feel. Just a blah day.....
