I am starting the #30daybloggingchallenge today. The first entry is about the name of my blog.
So why is this blog called "Sweet tea with a side of mouse ears?
I'm glad you asked. Because I am a southern woman who loves Disney. I was raised southern with fried chicken dinners every Sunday, sweet tea was always on the menu, and "yes maam" and "no sir" were some of my first words.
I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma and although it might not always be seen as traditionally southern, I can tell you that many of us were raised with these southern values. When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents on my dad's side also and his grandmother, my great grandmother. My great grandmother loved to play music on the piano and I would sit and watch for play.
With my grandmother or "grandma" as I called her, I was obsessed with how she made pinto beans. She would boil beans for beans and cornbread. They were so good and nobody could discover why. I was convinced that by her waving the steam away from the beans, that was her secret!
I also grew up loving WWE due to my dad and his dad, my grandpa. I would watch "Saturday Night Main Event" at my grandparents monthly. My mother hated the fact that I loved it because "girls don't watch things like that." My dad told me early on that if something makes me happy, it's best not to care what anyone thinks and just enjoy it.
I always loved Disney from the beginning. My aunt, who is also my dad's sister is a life long Disney fan. Actually a lot of things I love such as my love of Bath and Body Works came from her. She encouraged my love of all things Disney. As a child, I modeled my future dreams after her. She was and still is a role model to me.
Despite all the experiences I've had and my love of travel, a few things will never change. I will always love wrestling. I will always love Disney. I will always be a southern woman.
And that's the reason for the name of the blog.
