day 16 of my #30daybloggingchallenge Thoughts on education

I think education is never a bad thing and in my opinion, you are never too old to start over.

I am 41 years old with a Bachelor in Arts in Mass Communication from The University of Tulsa. I graduated in December 2002 and have worked at home as a writer/researcher for the past twelve years.

I decided recently, it was time to go back after trying to get a job in Public Relations and being told I need additional training. I decided to take Advanced Composition to raise my g.p.a. before I began my official courses this spring semester. In a matter of weeks, I raised my g.p.a. from a 2.6 to a 3.0

My feeling is that an education is valuable at any age. I also feel that  education is never a waste. It broadens life experiences and teaches things about the world that someone might never have known before. It opens people up to those who are unlike themselves and widens the worldview.

My feeling is that if someone chooses to use their degree in a non-traditional position; that is not something to be discouraged, but celebrated. There were many trailblazers in history and we can always use more. Not everyone follows the same path, not do they desire to.

I am excited to officially begin my degree in the spring semester. I have a ways to go, since I have decided I may be pursuing the Digital Media certificate as well as an Associates. I will see what comes for me afterward. But I remain open to life's possibilities and a bright future.

Finish strong!

We're down to the last few weeks folks! I have to finish my editorial on the college admissions scandal this weekend and this month will be attending a religious service for intercultural communication. On the 18th, I will be attending the Campus Activities Board for student leadership recognition and then a gala for winning a scholarship! This has been a challenging semester with lots of illness and pain, but I can see the light. I will have three weeks off until my summer classes start. I am taking Social Media Marketing and Honors TCC Connection. My job requires all students working there to enroll in a class each semester to advance their learning. In the fall, I am taking Principles of Advertising, Honors TCC Connection, Digital Photography, and Japanese I. Wish me luck! Gabrielle

Day 14 of my #30daybloggingchallenge Three healthy habits

I have started to try to incorporate more healthy habits into my life as of late. Here are three. 1. Get to bed at a decent hour. I used to stay up until after midnight every night, just surfing the net and watching television. Now, I try to get in bed by 10:30 or 11 p.m. at the latest. Getting more sleep allows me to be more productive the next day. 2. Drinking more water. I have started drinking more water. I prefer bottled water or sparkling water, I  do not like the water from the tap in my area; it has a strange taste. My mom dislikes tap water too and keeps bottled water around for that reason. 3. Get some exercise in daily. Whether it be going back to the gym or going to the park or stretches here, I try to do something. I've been doing house cleaning daily this week and that requires lots of exercise on my part. What are your three healthy habits?

Why going back to work was the best thing I could have done

I was a stay at home wife and furmom for the better part of a decade. I enjoyed it, but it got to where I needed more. I needed challenges and interaction from other people. I went back to college at Tulsa Community College last fall and aced my class. I applied and started working at The TCC Connection in December 17th. It has been a great experience for me and I'm loving meeting new people. I love the interaction with my coworkers and the camaradie. I also enjoy being involved in campus activities and being a part of the campus activities board. But mostly, I've enjoyed being a part of a community again. I enjoy being busy and having exciting new challenges everyday. It's days like today where I am at home ill that makes me appreciate my new life. I enjoyed my old life, but I have a great new one and I couldn't be happier.
